thoughts on contact lenses

I only started wearing glasses at the tail end of my college career, after years of not being able to see things more than 6 feet in front of me, until somebody finally said, "That's wrong, you should be able to see clearly farther than that." I finally got myself to Chinatown and got the seeing thing cleared up, but I only started looking into contact lenses this year. They're easier in some ways, sure, but Christ are they irritating. It's easier to see in places like dance class or skating, where glasses would be a hinderance, but nobody mentioned, ever, how much they would BURN. They're finw when I wear them, but for about an hour after I take them out, it's Burn City, population: Me. Ouch.

What kind do you have? I have similarly sensitive eyes, and it took me a few years to be introduced to a more eye-friendly brand. If I remember correctly, your eyes will also toughen up a bit after a while.

If you don't already use O2 Optix brand soft contacts, I advise you switch over when you get the chance. It was like night and day when I did. Also, ease into the use, i.e. start with a few hours a day and then work your way up until you can wear them for a whole day; I mean, you're putting a foreign object in your eye. Also, the burning is probably from dehydration, I'd recommend picking up some eye drops.

there should be no burning. Especially when you take them out...what brand are you using. truth is, different brands work for different people. I tried a few different ones, and settled on Accuvue's. I wear them pretty much nonstop with no problems. I've gone a week without taking them out with no problem whatsoevr. This is obviously not recommended, but good to know it's something i dont have to worry about when I find myself away from civilization.

Also, no matter what anyone says, there's no difference between 1 day disposables and extended wear contacts. They're all the same.

I agree, you have to try different brands to find one that works. My eye doctor last recommended "Oasis" to me, but I didn't much like them.

I have regular AcuVue, and I wear them day/night for two weeks at a time, sometimes longer (I lose track). It's really not recommended, but I love falling asleep watching tv and waking up seeing things. Usually, when I do change them, I try to leave them out for at least a day, and my eyes will burn and tear QUITE a bit, but I guess that is my own fault.

My long-term goal is to get LASIK, but my savings plan kinda went caput a few months ago.
