Last week I took a whirlwind trip to LA, courtesy of Eric's impending business trip and the swanky hotel he was staying in. And so, I present to you,

Los Angeles in Pictures!

The view off of Santa Monica pier. My first impression of California is how slow everyone seems to move. I kept having to surpress the urge to shove people out of the way, like I do with tourists here, because I realized, for once I was the tourist.

We bought a map and took our own driving tour of the Hollywood Hills.

DOWNTOWN 'WOOD:

Oh Humph, you just gave me another reason to want to violate your corpse.

I went looking for Ethel Merman's star on the Walk of Fame, but this is what I found instead.

Look what else I found!

Hiding among the diners of Santa Monica, is LJ's own [livejournal.com profile] socialskills. Actually, I convince Shaun to drive all the way up from San Diego to drink coffee with me at 3am [EST]. Quite the solid, Shaun!

THE DIGS:

"Welcome to the Santa Monica Loews Beach Hotel, Santa Monica's premiere beachfront hotel!" I will agree, this place was excessively swank.

I wanted to steal this robe. Eric wouldn't let me. killjoy.

We did, however, hit the mini bar for some $7 Snickers.

The fine folks at the Santa Monica Loews are sure to pre-calculate the needs of their guests, right down to the little oft-forgot details, such as:

Emergency Flares in the mini bar! Now available in designer terror-warning level Yellow! only $4 charged to your room!

A repositionable TV in the bathroom, so you can watch the Price Is Right, just the way it was intended. In the can.

Also for your convenience, a telephone is conveniently installed within reaching distance of the commode. I bet many a movie deal has been made from the canphone.

On Monday, Eric had his business meetings, so i was on my own in this 5 star hotel. You will all be pleased to know that the gym, pool and spa are all top rate. To make up for all the healthy type stuff, when Eric got back from his meeting, we took the
LOS ANGELES WHIRLWIND FAST FOOD TOUR!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Our tour started out with breakfast from LA's equivalent to Starbucks [though there are 1,000 of them per square mile too], Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. Apparently, this is the place that Britney Spears has her lattes flown in from when she's on tour.

Lunchtime was my favorite - Hot Dogs! On a stick!!

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
My first ever Corndog! They are delicious. I saved the cup my lemonade came in.

En route to the airport, Eric decided it was imperative that we try some In-N-Out burger [he's a vegetarian, so I wasn't quite sure WHY he was so set on eating there]. after 40 minutes of turning around, we finally found one.

Ugh. Too much fast food. I didn't need to eat for the entire plane ride home.

and of course, the only way to travel cross country
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
is watching Adult Swim on satelite TV with a complimentary beverage.

I'll always be loyal to New York, but I suppose when pilot season time comes, I'll be able to fake it as some semblance of California girl.

the slow moving people

judging from the places you went, you were probably not the only tourist, which may account for some of the slow walking. mann's theatre is the L.A. equivalent of the four block radius around Empire State, where i used to have to dodge around walls of slow moving tourists to catch my train. the most obvious sign of tourists in L.A. is, in fact, that they are walking at all. we are all sitting in our cars or standing on those scooter things that GOB rides in arrested development. if they aren't tourists, many of the other leisurely walkers are liesureyly becuase they don't have jobs because they are actors or rich or crazy people or all three. usually all three.

One of my least favorite things in the world to be is a tourist. when I am inevitably shipped to hell, this will be my job. Profssional tourist. Or telemarketer, I'm not sure. ANYway, there was a Segway dealer next to the hotel. the sales guy wouldn't let me ride it. bastard. I'd totally dig one of those. Otherwise, everybody was either fat, ugly, or homeless. I don't know where all the pretty overdone actress-types hang out. Studio city, maybe.
next time I'll stuff my bra and head over there.
